The latest statistics on Farm Incomes produced by the Welsh Government were released on 30 November 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release presents farm income figures based on three different measures: Farm Business Income (FBI), Net Farm Income (NFI) and Cash Income. The figures are from the annual Farm Business Survey. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 28 February 2011.
The key points from the latest release are:

  • Average Farm Business Income across 'All Farm Types' decreased by 12% between 2009-10 and 2010-11.  This is the first decline in average Farm Business Income in Wales since 2005-06.
  • Although market prices for lamb remained strong, lower returns for store and finished cattle, higher input costs and a decline in the average value of the Single Farm Payment all combined to generate a reduction in farm business income on grazing livestock farms.
  • In contrast, average Farm Business Income on Welsh Dairy farms increased by 9% between 2009-10 and 2010-11 as farm gate milk prices recovered from the drop experienced in 2009.
