Farm Incomes, 2011-12

The latest statistics on Farm Incomes produced by the Welsh Government were released on 30 November 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release presents farm income figures based on three different measures: Farm Business Income, Net Farm Income and Cash Income. The figures are produced from the annual Farm Business Survey. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 28 February 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Average farm business income per farm in Wales for ‘All Farm Types’ was £41,100 in 2011-12, an increase of 15 percent since 2010-11.
  • Average farm business income per farm for Dairy farms, Cattle & Sheep (LFA) farms and Cattle & Sheep (Lowland) farms in 2011-12 were £66,100, £34,600 and £35,300, respectively, all increasing by 16 per cent since 2010-11.
  • In real terms (at 2011-12 prices), average farm business income per farm in Wales for ‘All Farm Types’ increased by 10 per cent between 2010-11 and 2011-12.
  • Average net farm income per farm for ‘All Farm Types’ increased by 22 per cent (at current prices) between 2010-11 and 2011-12. In real terms (at 2011-12 prices) the increase in average net farm income per farm for ‘All Farm Types’ was 16 per cent.
  • Average cash income per farm for ‘All Farm Types’ increased by 8 per cent between 2010-11 and 2011-12.
  • Whilst average cash income per farm increased for both Dairy farms and Cattle & Sheep (LFA) farms – by 16 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively – average cash income per farm decreased by 5 per cent for Cattle & Sheep (Lowland) farms between 2010-11 and 2011-12.
