The first publication of enhanced analysis of the indicators of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) and the WIMD Child Index, produced by the Welsh Assembly Government, was released on 29 March 2011, according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website These statistics on indicators of deprivation, aggregated to various geographic and non-geographic groupings, include data for Wales from WIMD 2008, and an update to community safety indicators.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The WIMD and Child Index data are now available not only for lower-layer super output areas, but also local authorities, Strategic Regeneration Areas, Communities First Partnerships, and also non-geographic groupings by Defra Urban/Rural Classification and WIMD deprivation groups;
  • These analyses are published for the WIMD 2008 and Child Index 2008 indicators, and include a 2007/8 - 2008/9 update to the recorded crime and offender (adult and youth) indicators;
  • The published data can be found on the Welsh Assembly Government’s StatsWales website;
  • This new publication will be updated annually where possible, or when new data become available; and
  • Information about a correction to the burglary indicator in the WIMD 2008 community safety domain is also announced. This correction has a very limited effect on the WIMD and Child Index ranks.
