Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2011: Indicator Analysis

The publication of enhanced analysis of the indicators of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) 2011 and the WIMD Child Index 2011, produced by the Welsh Government, was released on 10 November 2011, according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website These statistics on indicators of deprivation, aggregated to various geographic and non-geographic groupings, include data for Wales from WIMD 2011, and an update to the WIMD 2008 income indicator and updates to three WIMD 2008 education indicators.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • the WIMD and Child Index data are now available not only for lower-layer super output areas, but also middle-layer super output areas, local authorities, Strategic Regeneration Areas, Communities First Partnerships, and also non-geographic groupings by Defra Urban/Rural Classification and WIMD deprivation groups;
  • these analyses are published for the WIMD 2011 and Child Index 2011 indicators;
  • the published data can be found on the Welsh Government’s StatsWales website;
  • this publication will be updated annually where possible, or when new data become available; and
  • information about a correction to the income indicator in the WIMD 2008 income domain and corrections to three indicators in the WIMD 2008 education domain (primary school absence rate, secondary school absence rate and percentage of adults aged 25 – 59/64 with no qualifications) are also announced.
