The latest statistics on National Strategic Indicators produced by the Welsh Government were released on 4 September 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on National Strategic Indicators include data relating to Wales and Local Authorities within Wales for the period 2011-12. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 23 August 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

The data for 2011-12 NSIs showed an overall picture of improvement over 2010-11 in the performance measured by the Welsh average, with an improvement in performance for sixteen indicators and seven indicators showing a decline in performance. One indicator is not directly comparable to previous years due to a change in definition . Between 2010-11 and 2011-12, the Welsh average improved in:

  • five out of the eight indicators for social care;
  • three of the four indicators for housing;
  • the indicator for planning and regulatory services;
  • four out of the five indicators for education;
  • two of the four indicators for environment and transport; and
  • The indicator for leisure and culture that has not had a change in definition this year.
