A Statistical Bulletin presenting the Education results from National Survey for Wales has been produced by the Welsh Government. It was released on 19 December 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The bulletin presents the Education results collected in the National Survey for Wales from January to March 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • 91% of parents were satisfied with the primary school their child attended and 88% were satisfied with the secondary school their child attended.
  • The majority of parents (70% of primary and 86% of secondary school children’s parents) did not wish to participate in making decisions about the running of their child’s school.
  • 85% of parents wanted their child to continue in full time education when they reached 16.
  • The majority (over 80%) of parents of children aged 3 to 7 read with their child or helped their child to learn about letters, numbers or shapes at least several times a week, the support provided on school work was less frequent.
  • 58% of parents of children aged 8 to 17 supported their child with their school work at least several times a week, however they were less likely to help their child to look up information on a computer, with 22% never doing so.
  • Overall, people gave ‘education in Wales’ an average rating of 6.5, where 0 was ‘extremely bad’ and 10 was ‘extremely good’, which compared favourably with other European countries.
  • 90% of households with children had access to the internet, compared with 62% of household where there were no children.
