Annual Population Survey, 2008
The latest Annual Population Survey results produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 25 June 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
The latest Annual Population Survey (APS) results cover the calendar year 2008. The APS combines the boosted samples of the Labour Force Survey and provides rolling four-quarter labour market data for UK countries and regions and also for local areas. For Wales, the APS consists of a sample of about 20,000 households every year. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 26 March 2009.

The key labour market results from the latest release are:
- The working age employment rate in West Wales and the Valleys was 68.9 per cent, whilst that for East Wales was 73.8 per cent (Wales: 70.7 per cent, UK: 74.0 per cent).
- In West Wales and the Valleys, the employment rate was up 1.9 percentage points on 2001. In East Wales it was up 1.2 percentage points. (Wales up 1.6 percentage points and UK down 0.1 percentage points).
