Index of Production and Index of Construction for Wales: Quarter 1, 2009

The latest National Statistics on the Index of Production and Construction produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 9 July 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on the Index of Production and Construction include data for Wales and the UK for the period up to Quarter 1 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 9 April 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The Index of Production for Wales for the latest four quarters fell by 2.1 per cent compared with the previous four quarters.  The UK index fell by 6.3 per cent over the same period. (Table 1)
  • Production output in Wales for quarter 1 2009 fell by 7.2 per cent compared with the previous quarter. The UK index fell by 5.1 per cent over the same period.  (Table 2a)
  • The Index of Construction for Wales for the latest four quarters fell by 13.8 per cent compared with the previous four quarters.  The UK Index fell by 4.1 per cent over the same period. (Table 1)
  • Construction output in Wales for quarter 1 2009 fell by 4.6 per cent compared with the previous quarter.  The UK index fell by 6.9 per cent over the same period. (Table 2a)
