The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released a household dataset for the Annual Population Survey for 2008. This dataset enables household analyses to be carried out at a Local Authority level, including details of people in workless households, children in workless households, lone parents and housing tenure.

UK Statistics Authority Website At the time of release ONS provided some analyses of workless households at a Local Authority level.  On November 10, a bulletin containing estimates of lone parents for each local authority in Wales will be released, as well as other analyses relating to workless households.

The main results from the ONS statistics show that, in 2008, 18.8 per cent of all working age households in Wales were workless.  This compares with 16.0 per cent of all working age households in the United Kingdom.  

In 2008, Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr Tydfil had the largest percentages of workless households both at 24.0, closely followed by Swansea with 23.9 per cent. Flintshire (11.1 per cent) and Monmouthshire (11.9 per cent) had the lowest percentages of workless households.
