The latest National Statistics on Average Hours Worked produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 5 November 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Average hours worked include data for Wales for 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 30 October 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Since the mid 1990s there has been a downward trend in average hours worked in both Wales and the UK.
  • Between 2001 and 2008, there was a reduction in the percentage of employees working 45 or more hours per week.
  • Managers and professionals averaged over 3 hours of unpaid overtime per week, in 2008. Process, plant and machine operatives and skilled trade occupations worked the most paid overtime at more than 2 hours per week.

The analyses are based on the Labour Force Survey and the Annual Population Survey.
