The latest National Statistics on Welsh Index of Market Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 12 November 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on the Welsh Index of Market Services include data Wales for the period up to the end of quarter 2 2009.  The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 13 August 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The longer term trend for the Welsh Index of Market Services shows a fall of just over 2 per cent when comparing the latest twelve months with the previous twelve months. The UK figures show a similar pattern. The short term quarterly movements in Wales show a rise of 0.5 per cent.
  • The longer term trend for the Index of Distribution shows a fall of around 3 per cent when comparing the latest twelve months with the previous twelve months. The UK figures show a contraction nearly double this over the same period. Short term quarterly movements in the distribution sector indicate a rise of 4.5 per cent in Wales.
