Annual Population Survey Household Data, 2010

The latest Annual Population Survey (APS) households’ results cover 2010.  This dataset enables household analyses to be carried out at a Local Authority level, including details of people in workless households, children in workless households, lone parents and housing tenure.  The latest release updates the bulletin previously released on 4 November 2010.

• In 2010, 22.5 per cent of households in Wales were workless.  This compares with 18.9 per cent of households in the United Kingdom.
• In 2010, Merthyr Tydfil and Neath Port Talbot had the largest percentages of workless households, at 29.9 per cent and 29.7 per cent respectively. Flintshire (16.4 per cent) and Monmouthshire (16.4 per cent) had the lowest percentages of workless households.
• In 2010, 18.8 per cent of children in Wales lived in a workless household compared with 16.5 per cent in the United Kingdom.
• The overall percentage of lone parent families is higher in Wales (9.3 per cent) than in the UK (8.4 per cent). The highest percentages of lone parent households were found in Blaenau Gwent (11.1 per cent), Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly and Newport (each 10.9 per cent).
