Consumer and Retail Price Indices (UK), August 2011

The latest National Statistics on Consumer Price Indices produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 13 September 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Consumer Price, Retail Price and Retail Price (excluding mortgage interest payments) indices include data to August 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 16th August 2011.

The Consumer Price Index is an internationally comparable measure of inflation and is also used to compare inflation rates across the European Union.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2011:

  • In the 12 months to August 2011, the CPI rose by 4.5 per cent, up from 4.4 per cent for the 12 months to July 2011.
  • In August 2011, the CPI stood at 120.1 (2005=100).

The all items Retail Price Index (RPI) for August 2011:

  • In the 12 months to August 2011, the all items RPI rose by 5.2 per cent, up from 5.0 per cent for the 12 months to July 2011.
  • In August 2011, the all items RPI stood at 236.1 (January 1987=100).

The RPI excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) for August 2011:

  • In the 12 months to August 2011, the all items RPIX rose by 5.3 per cent, up from 5.0 per cent for the 12 months to July 2011.
  • In August 2011, the RPIX stood at 235.4 (January 1987=100).
