Index of Production and Construction, Quarter 3 2011

The Index of Production and the Index of Construction for Wales show the short term movements in the output of industries in the production and construction sectors within Wales including new data for the three months to September relating to the third quarter of 2011.

Statistics on the Index of Production and the Index of Construction include data for Wales and the UK for the period up to Quarter 3 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 25 October 2011.

The key messages from the release are:

• The longer term trend for the Index of Production for Wales shows a fall of 0.3 per cent when comparing the latest four quarters to the previous four quarters.  UK output rose by 0.4 per cent. The short term quarterly movements show a much larger rise for Wales than the UK (up 2.0 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively).
• The longer term trend for the Index of Construction for Wales shows a rise of 7.3 per cent when comparing the latest four quarters to the previous four quarters. UK output rose by 5.5 per cent.  The short term quarterly movements in the construction industry show rises for both Wales and the UK with the rise in Wales larger than that for the UK (up 1.6 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively).
