Consumer and Retail Price Indices (UK), March 2012

The latest National Statistics on Consumer Price Indices produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 17th April 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Consumer Price, Retail Price and Retail Price (excluding mortgage interest payments) indices include data to March 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 20th March 2012.

The Consumer Price Index is an internationally comparable measure of inflation and is also used to compare inflation rates across the European Union.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2012:

  • In the 12 months to March 2012, the CPI rose by 3.5 per cent, up from 3.4 per cent for the 12 months to February 2012.
  • In March 2012, the CPI stood at 122.2 (2005=100).

The all items Retail Price Index (RPI) for March 2012:

  • In the 12 months to March 2012, the all items RPI rose by 3.6 per cent, down from 3.7 per cent for the 12 months to February 2012.
  • In March 2012, the all items RPI stood at 240.8 (January 1987=100).

The RPI excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) for March 2012:

  • In the 12 months to March 2012, the all items RPIX rose by 3.7 per cent, down from 3.8 per cent for the 12 months to February 2012.
  • In March 2012, the RPIX stood at 240.2 (January 1987=100).
