Key Economic Statistics, November 2012

The latest National Statistics on the labour market produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) were released on 14 November 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website The release includes the latest information from a range of sources and covers a variety of time periods. This release updates the statistics previously released on 17 October 2012.

The Labour Force Survey estimates for the 3 months to September 2012 show:

  • The employment rate for those aged 16-64 in Wales was 69.0 per cent, up 1.3 percentage points from the same period a year earlier. The UK average was 71.2 per cent, up 1.0 percentage point from the same period a year earlier.
  • The unemployment rate in Wales was 8.2 per cent of the economically active, down 1.1 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.  For the UK as a whole it was 7.8 per cent, down 0.4 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.
  • The economic inactivity rate for those aged 16-64 in Wales was 24.7 per cent, down 0.6 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.  The UK average was 22.6 per cent, down 0.7 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.

The claimant count rate in October 2012 for Wales was 5.6 per cent of the workforce, up 0.2 percentage points on October 2011 (UK rate 4.8 per cent, unchanged over the year).
