Welsh Index of Market Services, quarter 3 2012

The Index of Market Services for Wales show the short-term movements in the output of service sector companies within Wales, including new data for the three months to September, relating to the third quarter of 2012.

Statistics on the Index of Market Services include data for Wales and the UK for the period up to 2012 quarter 3. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 9 October 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

• the longer term trend for the Index of Market Services for Wales shows a rise of 3.1 per cent when comparing the latest four quarters to the previous four quarters. UK output rose by 1.1 per cent. The increase in Wales over the longer term is largely accounted for by increases in output from Distribution, Accommodation and Food Service Activities, Other Service Activities and Financial and Insurance Activities, whilst the increase in the UK is largely accounted for by Administrative and Support Services and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities
• over the shorter term (latest quarter compared to previous quarter) output in Wales rose by 0.2 per cent and output in the UK rose by 1.5 per cent. The increases in both Wales and the UK are largely accounted for by the increases in output of Distribution and Other Service Activities
