Municipal Waste Management Annual Bulletin, 2006-07

The Bulletin provides information on the amount of municipal waste collected from household and non-household sources and the levels of recycling in Wales. The information presented relates to 2006-07, together with figures for previous years.

The key points from the Bulletin are:

• The total amount of municipal waste arising in 2006-07, excluding abandoned vehicles, was 1.83 million tonnes, down from 1.90 million tonnes in 2005-06.
• The percentage of municipal waste being recycled or composted increased from 26 per cent in 2005-06 to 30 per cent in 2006-07.  Of which, 21 per cent was recycled and 9 per cent was composted.
• During 2006-07 there was 1.57 million tonnes of household waste, accounting for 86 per cent of all municipal waste.
