The latest quarterly statistics on municipal waste produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 6 January 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release covers provisional quarterly results from the WasteDataFlow system for July to September 2009 (Quarter 2, 2009-10).

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The share of municipal waste recycled, reused and composted in Wales has been on an upward trend, rising from 28 per cent in July to September 2006 to 41 per cent in July to September 2009.
  • The total amount of municipal waste produced in Wales has decreased overall, falling from 443 thousand tonnes in July to September 2006 to 433 thousand tonnes in July to September 2009.
  • The residual household waste produced in Wales has decreased sharply, falling from 100 kilograms per person in July to September 2006 to 77 kilograms per person in July to September 2009.
