The latest quarterly statistics on municipal waste produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 25 March 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release covers provisional quarterly results from the WasteDataFlow system for October-December 2009 (Quarter 3, 2009-10).

The key points from the latest release are:

  • There has been an upward trend in the percentage of municipal waste recycled, reused and composted in Wales, rising from 27 per cent in October to December 2006 to 37 per cent in October to December 2009.
  • The total amount of municipal waste produced in Wales has decreased overall, falling from 418 thousand tonnes in October to December 2006 to 373 thousand tonnes in October to December 2009.
  • The residual household waste produced per person in Wales has continued to decrease, falling from 94 kilograms per person in October to December 2006 to 71 kilograms per person in October to December 2009.
