The latest quarterly statistics on municipal waste produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 24 June 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release covers provisional quarterly results from the WasteDataFlow system for January-March 2010 (Quarter 4, 2009-10).

The key points from the latest release are:

  • There has been an upward trend in the percentage of municipal waste recycled, reused and composted in Wales, rising from 29 per cent in January to March 2007 to 37 per cent in January to March 2010.
  • The total amount of municipal waste produced in Wales has decreased overall, falling from 429 thousand tonnes in January to March 2007 to 374 thousand tonnes in January to March 2010.
  • The residual household waste produced per person in Wales has continued to decrease, falling from 95 kilograms per person in January to March 2007 to 73 kilograms per person in January to March 2010.
