We want to know whether you use the State of the environment indicators, what you use them for and the usefulness of the State of the Environment report.

The latest National Statistics on the State of the Environment produced by the Welsh Government were released on 25 July 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The bulletin presents information on the indicators monitoring progress against the Welsh Government’s Environment Strategy.
The key points from the bulletin are:

  • Of the indicators that have been defined and where information exists, 46 per cent show a clear improvement.
  • 33 of the 100 indicators show a clear improvement.
  • 32 of the 100 indicators are stable or show no clear trend.
  • 6 of the 100 indicators show a clear deterioration.
  • 13 indicators have insufficient data (of which 7 are under development) and 16 indicators have no data beyond the baseline.

Results for individual indicators can be found in the online report ‘State of Environment Report, 2012’ which presents analysis and background information. More detailed data is also available via our StatsWales website which can be manipulated or downloaded.

The StatsWales data tables will be updated on 25 July 2012. Some data tables may be unavailable during the period in which they are being updated.

Also, in order to ascertain how our users make use of the state of the environment indicators we are carrying out a 12 week consultation, starting on 25 July 2012. We would very much appreciate your comments and feedback.
