The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Government were released on 23 June 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on provisional fire incidents include data for Wales for the period up to 31 March 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 31 March 2011.

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 37,300 fires and false alarms in the year ending 31 March 2011, an increase of 3 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 8 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 20 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 31 March 2011, a fall from 23 in the previous period.
  • There were 269 injuries and a further 311 sent to a hospital for precautionary tests or given first aid, in the year ending 31 March 2011.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 31 March 2011, there were 16,900 false fire alarms in Wales, a similar number to the previous period.
  • There were 760 malicious false alarms during the current period, a decrease of 15 per cent when compared with the previous period.
