The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Government were released on 26 January 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 September 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 23 June 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended around 33,000 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 September 2011, a decrease of 16 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 11 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 22 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 30 September 2011, a fall from the 26 in the previous period.
  • There were 241 injuries and a further 331 received first aid, were sent to a hospital for precautionary tests or were advised to seek medical advice.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 30 September 2011, there were approximately 15,800 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 9 per cent from 17,300 in the previous period.
  • There were around 700 malicious false alarms during the current period, a decrease of 18 per cent when compared with the previous period.
