This statistical release provides summary data on community contraceptive services provided by clinics in Wales.

Key facts:

  • Nearly 51,000 women and over 4,500 men attended clinics for contraceptive services.
  • More than a third (36%) of women attending clinics were under 20 years old, compared to 26% in 1995-96.
  • Half the women attending clinics chose oral contraception (50%), with just over a fifth (22%) choosing condoms.
  • The number of women attending clinics for emergency contraception was just under 6,500 - an increase of 29% since 1995-96.
