Delayed Transfers of Care, June 2009

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 17 June 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 30 June 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

• The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 17 June 2009 was 439; this is an increase of 8, or 2 per cent, on the figure for 20 May 2009.
• The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 283.  Of these, 71 were delayed in mental health facilities and 212 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 85 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 71, the next stage could not be determined.
• The median length of delay for patients waiting to leave the NHS was 34 days.
