Referrals, Assessments and Social Services for Children, 2008-09

Statistics on referrals, assessments and social services for children include data for Wales for the period up to the end of March 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 24 September 2008.

Key points from the latest release are:

• Local authorities received 46,200 referrals and completed 24,200 initial assessments.
• 27 per cent of referrals were for children who had previously been referred to the same local authority.
• At 31st March 2009, local authorities were providing services to 24,900 children in need.
