The latest National Statistics on NHS immunisation in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 30 September 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website This statistical release summarises information about the uptake of immunisation, primarily childhood immunisations, during the year ended 31 March 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 25 November 2008.

Of the children who reached their 1st birthday in the year ended 31 March 2009:

  • 95% had been immunised against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis (whooping cough), haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), meningitis C and pneumococcal (PCV);

Of the children who reached their 2nd birthday in the year ended 31 March 2009:

  • 97% had been immunised against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis (whooping cough) and haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).
  • 95% had been immunised against meningitis C.
  • 88% had been immunised against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

Of the children who reached their 5th birthday in the year ended 31 March 2009:

  • 82% had been immunised with the second dose against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

During autumn/winter 2008-09, 60% of people aged 65 or over were immunised against influenza.

Uptake of 1 dose of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine in 2008-09 school year 8 girls was 88%.
