The latest National Statistics on teenage conceptions produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 24 November 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on teenage conceptions include data for England and Wales for the period up to the end of December 2007. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 8 October 2008.

The key points from the statistical bulletin are:

  • The conception rate for girls aged under 16 decreased slightly from 8.6 per thousand girls aged 13-15 in 2006 to 8.5 in 2007.
  • The conception rate for girls aged under 18 in 2007 was the same as in 2006, at 44.9 per thousand girls aged 15-17.
  • The conception rate for females aged under 20 increased from 64.5 per thousand females aged 15-19 in 2006 to 64.9 in 2007.
  • In 2007 the percentage of conceptions in Wales terminated by abortion was 53 per cent for the under 16s, 42 per cent for the under 18s and 36 per cent for the under 20s. The percentage for women of all ages was 20 per cent.
