The latest National Statistics on NHS General Dental Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 26 November 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of June 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 21 May 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

Between 1 April and 30 June 2009:

  • 571, 452 NHS dental courses of treatment by dentists in Wales were recorded.
  • 1,221,241 Units of Dental Activity were recorded.

Patients treated

  • 1.6 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 30 June 2009 amounting to 55.0 per cent of the population. 65.8 per cent of the child population (under 18 years) and 52.1 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over) were treated in the previous 24 months.
