Delayed Transfers of Care - December 2009

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 16 December 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 22 December 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

• The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 16 December 2009 was 513; this is a decrease of 76, or 12.9 per cent, on the figure for 18 November 2009.
• The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 428.  Of these, 92 were delayed in mental health facilities and 336 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 57 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 28, the next stage could not be determined.
• The median length of delay for patients waiting to leave the NHS was 34 days.
