The latest provisional statistics on referral to treatment times produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 11th February 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • In total, 59,552 patients were treated in Wales in December 2009.   Of these, 15,977 were admitted to hospital for their treatment and 43,575 patients started their treatment without requiring admission to hospital.
  • 91.2% of patients who were admitted to hospital for their treatment, and 97.6% of patients who did not require admission to hospital were treated within 26 weeks of the date the referral letter was received in the hospital.
  • In total, 227,210 patients were waiting for the start of their treatment at 31st December 2009. Of these patients waiting for their treatment, 99.3% have been waiting less than 26 weeks from the date the referral letter was received in the hospital.
  • In total for Cardiac referral to treatment, 2,670 patients were treated for cardiac services in Wales in December 2009. Of these, 95.8% were treated within 26 weeks of the date the referral letter was received in the hospital.
  • In total, 10,409 patients were waiting for the start of their cardiac treatment at 31st December 2009. Of these patients waiting for their treatment, 98.8% have been waiting less than 26 weeks from the date the referral letter was received in the hospital.
