Clinical Dental Report, England and Wales: Quarter 3 and Quarter 4, 2008/09

The latest statistics on clinical dental treatments produced by the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care were released on 11 March 2010.

Statistics include the number of Courses of Treatment (CoTs) and numbers of clinical treatment items in Wales for quarter 3 and quarter 4, 2008/09. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 19 August 2009.

The key points from the report are:

  • In Wales, in quarter 4, scale and polish was the most common clinical treatment, recorded in 31.6 per cent of adult CoTs. Permanent fillings and sealant restorations and radiographs were recorded in 27.2 per cent and 13.9 per cent of adult CoTs respectively.
  • For children, in quarter 4, permanent fillings and sealant restorations were the most common clinical treatment, included in 25.6 per cent of child CoTs. There were 40.1 permanent fillings and sealant restorations recorded in every 100 child CoTs.
  • Where a CoT included bridges fitted, in quarter 4 the average number of bridge units provided per CoT was 2.4 for both adults and children.
