NHS Waiting Times: At end February 2010

The latest statistics on NHS waiting times produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 8 April 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on NHS Wales waiting times for admission as an inpatient or day case and for a first outpatient appointment include data for Welsh residents waiting for NHS funded treatment as at the end of February 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 11th March 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

• The number waiting over 14 weeks on the inpatient/day case list rose over the month from 13,534 to 15,311 and the number waiting over 22 weeks rose over the month from 3,204 to 4,312.
• The number waiting over 10 weeks on the outpatient list rose over the month from 37,288 to 42,506 and the number waiting over 22 weeks rose over the month from 3,247 to 4,381. (Excluding Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).

There is currently a consultation taking place on the proposal to stop the collection and publication of waiting times for first outpatient appointments and inpatient/day-case admissions. The consultation will run until April 16 2010.
