Statistics on a range of waiting times in the NHS in Wales are now published together. In doing so, we are able to provide commentary that aids interpretation of such statistics and provides factual information about the policy or operational context of the statistics.

The latest statistics on waiting times for specified diagnostic and therapy services (see release for details of services included) for the NHS in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 13 May 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on NHS Wales Diagnostic & Therapy Services waiting times include data for all patients, irrespective of their area of residence, waiting for specified diagnostic & therapy services at Welsh Local Health Boards for the period up to the end of March 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 8th April 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The number of people waiting more than 8 weeks for specified diagnostic services rose over the month from 1,926 to 2,199.
  • The number of people waiting more than 14 weeks for specified therapy services fell over the month from 727 to 403.
