Statistics on a range of waiting times in the NHS in Wales are now published together. In doing so, we are able to provide commentary that aids interpretation of such statistics and provides factual information about the policy or operational context of the statistics.

The latest statistics on NHS waiting times produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 13 May 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on NHS Wales waiting times for admission as an inpatient or day case and for a first outpatient appointment include data for Welsh residents waiting for NHS funded treatment as at the end of March 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 8th April 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The number waiting over 14 weeks on the inpatient/day case list rose over the month from 16,304 to 16,480 and the number waiting over 22 weeks rose over the month from 4,583 to 5,247.
  • The number waiting over 10 weeks on the outpatient list fell over the month from 43,419 to 36,310 and the number waiting over 22 weeks rose over the month from 4,411 to 4,555. (Excluding Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).

As a result of the recent consultation, this monthly publication will cease after this publication. More details on the results and the conclusion reached are available from the consultation response.
