The latest statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 22 June 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 19 May 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 25 May 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 19 May 2010 was 569; this is a decrease of 36, or 6.0 per cent, on the figure for 21 April 2010.
  • The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 449.  Of these, 106 were delayed in mental health facilities and 343 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 58 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 62 the next stage could not be determined.
  • The median length of delay for patients waiting to leave the NHS was 27 days.
