The latest statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 24 August 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 21 July 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 20 July 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 21 July 2010 was 551; this is an increase of 27, or 5.2 per cent, on the figure for 16 June 2010.
  • The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 456.  Of these, 97 were delayed in mental health facilities and 359 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 54 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 41 the next stage could not be determined.
  • The median length of delay for patients waiting to leave the NHS was 33 days.
