Referrals, Assessments and Social Services for Children, 2009-10

Statistics on referrals, assessments and social services for children include data for Wales for the period up to the end of March 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 23 September 2009.

Key points from the latest release are:

• Local authorities received 49,000 referrals and completed 24,000 initial assessments.
• 32 per cent of referrals were for children who had previously been referred to the same local authority.
• 2,700 children were registered on local authority Child Protection Registers (CPRs) at 31 March 2010.
