The latest National Statistics on NHS General Dental Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 19 May 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of December 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 23 February 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

Activity between 1 October and 31 December 2010:

  • A total of 1.19 million Units of NHS Dental Activity were done, a decrease of 5.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. This represented 543,140 individual courses of treatment, a decrease of 5.8 per cent  when compared to the same period last year.

Patients treated:

  • 1.65 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 31 December 2010 amounting to 55.0 per cent of the population, 64.7 per cent of the child population (under 18 years old) and 52.5 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over). This is a decrease of 0.5 percentage points for the per cent of population treated compared to the same period last year.
