The latest National Statistics on NHS General Dental Services produced by the Welsh Government were released on 24 November 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of June 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 18 August 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

Activity between 1 April and 30 June 2011:

  • A total of 1.17 million Units of NHS Dental Activity were done, a decrease of 2.7(r) per cent compared to the same period last year. This represented 555,532 individual courses of treatment, a decrease of 1.8(r) per cent when compared to the same period last year.

Patients treated:

  • 1.65 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 31 June 2011 amounting to 54.9 per cent of the population, 64.8 per cent of the child population (under 18 years old) and 52.2 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over). This is a decrease of 0.3 percentage points for the per cent of population treated compared to the same period last year.
