The latest National Statistics on the ambulance service in Wales produced by the Welsh Government were released on 4 January according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on ambulance services in Wales include data for November 2011.  The latest release, which has been revised to reflect the NHS Wales Annual Quality Framework 2011-12, updates the statistics previously released on 7 December.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • there were just over 29,000 emergency calls, up 0.7% compared with November 2010, almost 8% higher than in November 2009, and just over 10% higher than in November 2008;
  • 7,929 (70.0%) emergency responses to Category A (immediately life-threatening) calls arrived at the scene within 8 minutes, above the all-Wales target of 65% for the tenth successive month; and
  • performance at Unitary Authority level ranged from 57.2% in Rhondda Cynon Taf  to 81.3% in Denbighshire.
