The latest statistics on GP Referrals produced by the Welsh Government were released on 1 February 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on GP Referrals received at Welsh Local Health Boards for a first outpatient appointment include data for Wales for the period December 2010 to December 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 4 January 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The number of GP referrals for a first outpatient appointment received at a Welsh Local Health Board was 56,435 in December 2011;
  • This is a 17.6% increase compared with December 2010 and a 10.0% decrease compared with November 2011, at an all Wales level.

All figures relating to December 2011 are provisional.
