The latest National Statistics on NHS General Dental Services produced by the Welsh Government were released on 16 February 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of September 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 24 November 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

Activity between 1 July and 30 September 2011:

  • A total of 1.24 million Units of NHS Dental Activity were done, an increase of 1.0 per cent compared to the same period last year. This represented 585, 178 individual courses of treatment, an increase of 1.4 per cent when compared to the same period last year.

Patients treated:

  • 1.65 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 30 September 2011 amounting to 55.0 per cent of the population, 64.9 per cent of the child population (under 18 years old) and 52.4 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over). This is an increase of 0.1 percentage points for the per cent of population treated compared to the same period last year.
