The latest statistics on Programme Budgets produced by the Welsh Government were released on 28 March 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on NHS Expenditure Programme Budgets include data for Local Health Boards (LHBs) in Wales for the financial years 2006-07 to 2010-11. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 30 March 2011.

Key Points for 2010-11

  • Total expenditure for all programme budget categories was £5,355 million or £1,781 per head of the population. Expenditure in 2010-11 was 2.4 per cent higher than expenditure in 2009-10.
  • The largest single programme budget category was spending on mental health problems, which amounted to 11.9 per cent of the total.
  • Spending per head of the population on clinical programmes, ranged from £8.83 on hearing problems to £211.78 on mental health problems.
