The latest statistics on Time Spent in Accident and Emergency Departments produced by the Welsh Government were released on 31 May 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Time Spent in NHS Wales Accident and Emergency Departments include data for Wales for the period beginning April 2011 through to April 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 26 April 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • 88.6 per cent of patients spent less than 4 hours in All Hospital Emergency Care facilities from arrival until admission, transfer or discharge. This is an increase of 0.6 percentage points from March 2012;
  • 96.5 per cent of patients spent less than 8 hours in All Hospital Emergency Care facilities from arrival until admission, transfer or discharge. This is a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from March 2012; and
  • Over the last two years, performance against the targets tended to drop over the winter months and then rise until the end of the summer months.

All figures relating to April 2012 are provisional.
