The latest statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care produced by the Welsh Government were released on 18 September 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 15 August 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 21 August 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 15 August 2012 was 450; this is an increase of 28, or 6.6 per cent, on the figure for 18 July 2012;
  • The total number of patients waiting to leave hospital was 381.  Of these, 78 were delayed in mental health facilities and 303 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 51 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment, and for 18 the next stage could not be determined.
