The latest statistics on GP Referrals produced by the Welsh Government were released on 3 October 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on GP Referrals received at Welsh Local Health Boards for a first outpatient appointment include data for Wales for the period April 2012 to August 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 5 September 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The number of GP referrals for a first outpatient appointment received at a Welsh Local Health Board was 63,468 in August 2012;
  • This is a 7.3% decrease compared with July 2012, at an all Wales level.

All figures relating to August 2012 are provisional.

In the previous release we informed users that from August 2012 onwards, the data source in this release would be changing from the aggregate GP referrals data collection to the Outpatient Referrals Data Set (OPR DS). For more details, see the Notes pages in the release. However, so that the data is available on the same basis for a full financial year, the data in this release and on StatsWales has been backdated to April 2012 using the OPR DS as the source.
