The latest official statistics on fostering and adoption intermediary services, produced by the Welsh Government were released on 31 October 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The statistics on fostering and adoption intermediary services include data for Wales for the period up to the end of March 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 26 October 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • 65 new private fostering arrangements started during the year, compared to 74 in the previous year.
  • 78 per cent of the children whose private fostering arrangement began in the year were born in the UK and 22 per cent in other countries. 87 per cent were aged 10 or over at 31 March 2012.
  • 74 children received an initial visit during the year, of which 73 per cent were within 7 days of the beginning of the fostering arrangement.
