The latest statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care produced by the Welsh Government were released on 20 November 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date of 17 October 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 23 October 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 17 October 2012 was 434; this is an increase of 13, or 3.1%, on the figure for 19 September 2012;
  • the total number of patients waiting to leave hospital was 355.  Of these, 95 were delayed in mental health facilities and 260 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 48 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment, and for 31 the next stage could not be determined.
